History and Founding

Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW)
Almost simultaneously, in Leiden, The Netherlands, the initiative Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW) was founded, which collects tissue types of all voluntary donors worldwide. This data is made available to all organisations worldwide, which are responsible for placing requests and running searches for donors in order to, quickly get an extensive overview of the availability of possible donors, especially during the initial phase of a search. From the beginning, the group in Ulm and the colleagues in Leiden cooperated in the establishment of the databases.
