Goals and visions

„To find the best possible donor worldwide faster”, this continues to be the goal of the ZKRD. We see this slogan very comprehensively: We visualise our work as part of the total treatment process of the patient, from the diagnosis of the illness and the preliminary search to the transplantation and its lasting effect. This takes all sources of blood stem cells into consideration – bone marrow, peripheral blood and cord blood – since these are alternatives that are almost always taken into consideration in order to choose the best option for each individual patient.

With respect to the search procedure, all final quality parameters are taken into account: the success rate of the searches, the duration of the process until a suitable donor is found and the transplantation has been performed, as well as the extent of matching which was achieved between the tissue types of the donor and patient. And, although concentrating on searches for German patients, the ZKRD does all that it can to make its expertise and the extensive German donor pool available to international patients as well.
