It covers all the steps invol­ved in sear­ching for a donor, from the initi­al request to dis­tri­bu­ting regu­lar­ly updated donor lists, exchan­ging orders and results, through the coll­ec­tion of bone mar­row. Com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on is hand­led through stan­dar­di­zed mes­sa­ges exch­an­ged via an addi­tio­nal­ly secu­red e‑mail pro­to­col (“EMDIS Com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on Sys­tem”). Ori­gi­nal­ly deve­lo­ped for Euro­pe, this sys­tem has now been adopted by regis­tries in the USA and Australia.
