In more than 40% of all unrelated transplants worldwide, the donors and recipients come from different countries – a trend that is growing. The WMDA was established in 1988 to facilitate these international transplant procedures. The Association’s goal is the global harmonization of high standards to ensure that the complex process of searching and donating is efficient for patients and safe for donors. Among the many international working groups, a lot of German representatives not only from the ZKRD but also its national partners are actively involved. (www.wmda.info)
